Additional Information and Preparation:
Bring high resolution, laser printed or copied patterns to class and we will put them on PnP. The patterns must be 2” or less in any dimension for the class. Larger patterns work well but take longer than the time that will be available in class.
If you would like a commercial transfer of your pattern to PnP prior to the class, please submit a black and white PDF file at least 2 weeks in advance to wmrhoward@gmail.com. The image should be no larger than 2” in any dimension. If there are technical difficulties with the pre-class transfer, students may need to be prepared to do the transfer in class.
This technique will allow you to etch both copper alloys and silver. Practicing first on copper is recommended, though you may bring sheet silver if you wish. The sheet should be at least ¼ inch larger than the pattern—the higher the silver content the better the etch results. Silver requires a different etch chemical (instructor will have this available for purchase, but it will not be supplied).
If you want to experiment with resist removal vs. pattern transfer, bring your favorite tools to add/remove resist.
Other materials necessary are included in the kit, including fresh PnP, etch solution for class work, electrical hookup, etch container and power supply.
