- 1 cast iron 8″ pitch bowl, half-round shape (buy empty)
- 1 pitch bowl “donut” (or a small canvas sandbag or a 6” lawnmower wheel with the center removed)
- medium grade pitch–Red German pitch from AllCraft (3 lbs. per 8 inch bowl)
- 1 chasing hammer (professional grade recommended but not absolutely necessary to begin) #26 from AllCraft
- magnifying visor (optivisor) with a focal length of about 14” (optional)
- 1 X-Acto knife to scratch designs into the metal
- 1 pliers (preferably a pair of chain nose pliers you don’t care about)
- tool steel for making punches (will discuss in class)
- steel wool (grade 000 or 0000)
- 3×3 inch sheet of 20 or 22 gauge copper metal
- notebook
- 1 package Sculpy or Fimo polymer clay (available at craft stores)
- tracing paper
- carbon paper
- stylis or ball point pen for transferring images
- 1 chapstick
Finishing tools and techniques will be discussed in class as the project is completed.
